This marked our second three-month stay in Florida, and what better place to immerse ourselves than amidst natural springs and abundant nature? Our unforgettable time in Ocala was filled with exploration, discovery, and endless adventure. Known as the Horse Capital of the USA, Ocala offered us a truly unique experience.
Settling Into Serenity
From the moment we arrived in Ocala, the city’s natural beauty captivated us. Surrounded by sprawling forests, crystal-clear springs, and picturesque horse farms, Ocala felt like a tranquil oasis away from urban hustle. Settling into our modern loft on the square, we eagerly began our explorations. With Lynda’s deep love for music, we were perfectly situated just minutes away from the town’s historic square, where Friday nights were filled with music, Saturdays hosted vibrant farmers markets, and excellent dining options were just a short stroll away.
Exploring the Natural Wonders
Lynda meticulously planned our calendar around Ocala’s numerous springs, despite unexpected rainfall during our stay. Each spring we visited, from the iconic Silver Springs with its Glass Bottom boat tours to the serene Manatee Springs where manatees gracefully swam, revealed its own unique beauty and charm. Our weekends were dedicated to discovering these natural treasures, with visits also to the enchanting gardens of Bok Tower and the wildlife-rich Orlando Wetlands. Every outing was an adventure filled with awe-inspiring sights.
Horse Country Adventures
In the renowned Horse Capital of the USA, our visit wouldn’t be complete without immersing ourselves in equestrian pursuits. Witnessing Olympic qualifications amidst breathtaking jumping events was a highlight, followed by exploring the world’s largest Equestrian Center with its upscale hotels and beautifully adorned surroundings. The area’s farms, distinguished by black fences and moss-draped oaks, added to the region’s picturesque charm.
Culinary Experiences
Ocala’s culinary scene was a constant delight, offering Southern delicacies in cozy cafes and farm-to-table delights in renowned restaurants. Each meal celebrated the region’s fresh flavors and local ingredients, reflecting the vibrant culinary culture that defines Ocala.
